Normal, younger skin is characterized by a smooth, soft feel and an unblemished, even-toned look. Pores are small and unblocked, and oil and moisture are well-balanced, giving the skin a dewy, moist-but not greasy-appearance. Naturally radiant, normal skin's greatest threat comes from external stressors such as UV exposure, environmental pollutants and poor lifestyle choices. And, of course, aging - along with a slowing metabolism - imposes changes that are rarely appealing.
Compensating for these changes imposed on our skin over time is exactly the objective of our clinical facials and corrective peels. As we age, skin cell turnover slows down and dead or dying skin cells remain on the surface of our skin longer. This not only creates a duller appearance, but it can clog pores and inhibit the oxygenation of the skin.
A Clinical Facial Chemical Peel includes both exfoliation - to remove some of the dead skin - and a deep-pore cleansing designed to leave your skin in a more optimum condition which inhibits the development of any new blemishes.
A Chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. Following the peel procedure, the client will usually experience flaking or peeling skin (not unlike that which follows a sunburn) for 3 to 7 days. The degree of peeling depends on which peel was used. For certain skin conditions, this is an excellent way to remove the upper layers of the skin and force the body to create new, more healthy skin cells.
Different peel procedures are available depending on skin type and the degree of exfoliation that is required. We offer mild basic peels to more aggressive peel procedures. All chemical peels are best done in a series.
For dramatic therapeutic results, we can combine peels with microdermabrasion (Vibraderm), or facials with chemical peels.
During your personal consultation, we evaluate your skin, your medical history, discuss your goals and determine an initial peel strength. Allergies, medication use, history of cold sores or photosensitivity are all important factors in peel safety. We then advise you of the best treatment options.
